NEWS RELEASE

Entrepreneurs in Forsyth, Clyde Park, and Bozeman get grants from Montana Business & Professional Women’s Foundation

HELENA – Business improvement grants to women entrepreneurs in newspapering, outfitting and robotics have been awarded by the Montana Business & Professional Women’s Foundation.

Award winners are Carol Klinker, publisher and editor of the weekly Hysham Echo; Joan Heintz, a Clyde Park outfitter who guides tourists in Yellowstone National Park; and Debi Maloney of Bozeman, who teaches robotics classes for children in schools and at her independent business.

“These self-betterment grants are for relatively small amounts, but amounts that make a real difference to keeping business alive. We’re particularly proud to help enthused women keep growing their independent businesses and professions,” said Rep. Jennifer Pomnichowski of Bozeman, a BPW Foundation coordinator of the annual Shooting Star Grants program.

Penny Huntsberger of Great Falls, Montana BPW Foundation president, added, “Often, women in struggling small businesses are stymied for lack of pieces of equipment or instruction in new methods, and we try to provide funding for all or part of those needs in order to keep them going. We wish our organization had more funds available, because we receive significantly more applications than we are financially able to satisfy.”

Klinker, who has operated the newspaper for the past 14 years in addition to other employment, will use her $1,800 grant for new computer software and instruction to make her publication look more professional and up-to-date.

Heintz, who has previous guiding experience, will use a $500 grant to help launch her own new outfitting business, Hoof Beat Recreational Services, with a website, magazine advertising, brochures, calling cards, stationery, and other marketing development aids.

Maloney’s $630 grant will enable her Robotic Explorer business to acquire more and newer computer software and Lego equipment with which to teach the fundamentals of robotics to elementary and junior high school students.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS FROM THE ORGANIZATION:

The Montana BPW Foundation, Inc. is operated through a statewide Board of Directors and has been supported primarily through contributions from the Montana Business and Professional Women members.  The Foundation is looking for additional support from outside sources, including other Foundations or persons who recognize the value of our program to help us increase our endowment.   Montana women have limited finances and difficulty accessing resources available in other states, such as venture capitalists.  Women in Montana need help and this Foundation has been established to improve women’s success in the State of Montana.
